The Rebate You Might Not Have Known Existed

Companies classified as manufacturing industry (NACE codes 05–33) effectively pay only 0.6 öre/kWh in energy tax – instead of 43.9 öre/kWh, which is the standard tax. The difference is applied for retroactively from Skatteverket.

For an industrial company with an annual consumption of 3 GWh, this amounts to over SEK 1.3 million per year.

Checklist: Are You Eligible?

  • Does the company have a NACE code within 05–33? Check Bolagsverket's register.
  • Is the consumption linked to the actual manufacturing process? Offices, warehouses, and sales are not included.
  • Do you have separate metering for the manufacturing portion – or a method to allocate consumption?
  • Have you applied for a rebate for the correct period? Applications can be made retroactively for up to 3 years.

Common Pitfalls

  • Applying for the entire building's consumption, despite including administration.
  • Support processes (ventilation, office lighting) incorrectly included.
  • Applications made too late, resulting in lost rebate periods.
  • Failure to manage aid according to EU state aid regulations.
